Total Induced Abortions by Province
In 2007 the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) began disseminating abortion data (a role previously undertaken by Statistics Canada).
Below are some tables detailing the number of reported abortions performed in Canada by province/territory from 2007 to 2019 (the latter being the latest year on record).
NOTE: Hospitals are mandated by their provincial/territorial ministry of health to report all hospital activity (not limited to abortions); therefore, coverage of abortions performed in Canadian hospitals can be considered complete. However, there is no such legislative requirement for clinics to report their activity (reporting is voluntary).
This means that the actual number of abortions, while unknown, is much higher than what is being reported.
